“KYLS was an incredible experience for not only our students, but for me as a sponsor as well. After the summit while walking to our van, the students were already asking me if we could attend again next year. KYLS really lit our fire to make it a great school year!”

About Kansas Youth Leadership Summit

Kansas Youth Leadership Summit (KYLS) is a program that empowers Kansas youth and adults to live positive lifestyles that strengthen their schools and communities! During the summit, teams of youth and adults from across Kansas create action plans aimed at making their communities safer, healthier places to live. How do we do it? By supporting positive behaviors, reducing substance use and encouraging safe driving!

Every summer, our KYLS trainers, speakers and presenters come together to motivate and inspire participants by teaching them how The Power of One really can make a difference. After attending the summit, youth and adults return home with knowledge, skills and activities they can confidently use to transform their schools and communities into better places to live!

Kansas Family Partnership (KFP) is proud to provide KYLS each year, and we’re grateful to have the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) as our sponsor for this terrific event!

Kansas Youth Leadership Summit Schedule

We want our participants to get an awesome experience from KYLS, so we’re working hard to put together an exciting schedule for this year’s event. Here are all the overview details for the summit in 2017:

Kansas Youth Leadership Summit Teams

KYLS is open to teams of youth and adults from any Kansas community! To get the best experience from the summit, we encourage schools or organizations to bring 6-8 incoming high school freshmen, sophomores or juniors and 2 adults. We’d love to invite incoming seniors, but we know school schedules and graduation commitments have them pretty busy already.

While we’d love to accept schools or organizations just for saying yes to KYLS, we do need you to complete our application first. Since we need teams to actively follow up with us after the summit and report their action plan progress, we’ll consider your school or organization’s prior participation and engagement with your application. If your school or organization is selected to participate in KYLS, we will send you an official notification with forms we need teams and participants to complete and submit before they attend. Space is limited to 22 teams, so apply now before our spots fill up!

KYLS is FREE for teams thanks to a federal grant through the Kansas Department of Transportation! In addition to getting an awesome experience, we’ll cover meals, lodging, sessions, workshops, activities and materials. And if any team or participant might need special accommodations, please don’t hesitate to contact KFP at 1.800.206.7231 or ksfampart@kansasfamily.com to see how we can make arrangements.

Kansas Youth Leadership Summit Trainers

KYLS is open to youth and adults who are motivating and inspiring others by living positive lifestyles every day! During the summit, trainers empower teams of youth and adults as they create action plans to make a difference in their communities. We believe participants learn best from peers, so we encourage youth trainers to apply once they’re 15 years old and adult trainers to apply once they’re 18 years old.

We’re thrilled you want to make a difference as a KYLS trainer, but first, we need you to fill out our application. Since we need trainers to participate in a required training of trainers in Topeka prior to KYLS, you’ll want to make sure you’re available for it before applying. If you are selected to participate in KYLS, we will send you an official notification with forms we need trainers to complete and submit before they attend. Space is limited to 22 youth trainers and 22 adult trainers, so apply now before our spots fill up!
